Palmistry Basics by Kay Packard

Within the beautiful and magnificent hands are numerous aspects and characteristics to ponder.  All of these various aspects are contained within each of us.  The hand map is a simple diagram showing the descriptions for some of these facets.  A line or marking in the hand can specify a particular element that distinguishes you from everyone else.  I’d like to introduce you to some fundamentals of palmistry because I’ve found this art and science to be incredible for deep self awareness and enriched personal empowerment.  I’ve seen people from age eight to eighty benefit.

Areas of the hand, such as the fingers, mounts, and specific markings, can mold themselves in accordance to how we engage particular traits in our own lives.  We are whole beings with a whole hand – times two!  As the hand can be compartmentalized, we too can be recognized with various partitions of attributes in our interior make-up.  For example, you may be motivated to lead while also being gifted at writing.  Or you may have a knack for spiritual counsel as well as achieving endless tasks. The shape and quality of your index finger tells me about your preferences and talents as a leader.  The fleshy mount of the Moon, at the bottom of the palm, near the wrist on the outer edge of the palm gives me a clue as to your interest in spirituality.

As we give attention to certain things in our lives we consciously and often times unconsciously, compose our life-movie-scenes.  My life movie involves innovative teaching with great passion, amongst other things.  You too follow a theme as part of your life movie.

The hands can be read to clearly show how a person is using or living with these various aspects in their life movie.  You have a concrete blue print, in essence a life map, at the end of your own arms.  Take a look.  What do you see?

For example, the Thumb represents results, accomplishment and will for success.  Every single person will approach this aspect of life in a completely different way.  Let’s consider a simple example. If someone has a large Thumb, relative to the rest of the hand, and its set away from the hand, the owner will generally prefer to grasp and handle on a large scale. Conversely, a person with a smaller thumb, relative to the rest of the hand, and is held more tightly to the palm, will be more inclined to keep to themselves with less will to do.

It is important not to make judgment or assessment of anyone based on only one characteristic.  It’s important to look at a variety of points to determine a more accurate picture.  Think of an ant as a presence and contribution of individuality to the whole of the living ant colony. We won’t get a whole picture of the ant colony by looking at only one of the workers. To appreciate the reason for the ant colony, with its beauty and significant contribution to the nature of things, it would be better to study a variety of the moving insects, to analyze their operations and to understand their purpose.  I remember when I was first introduced to the idea (and fact) that some ants can carry 100 times their own weight.  After being told, I had to go watch the ants in the dirt in my back yard.  While I didn’t have equipment to measure the miniature weeds and ant-food being swiftly hauled on their backs, I could see what they carried weighed more than the micro creature itself.

Back to hands.

The way I look at this, fingers are like antennas receiving and transmitting energy.  Mountains on the palms allow space for the energy to be used.  And lines etched in the hands illustrate the flow of energy along our neurological ‘bi-ways and hi- ways’.  I also consider us as vibrational beings.  The imprints on our naked bodies, in the form of lines on and shapes of the hands and fingers reveal a vibrational code, if you will.  The skin carvings (a.k.a dermatoglypics) of the fingerprints also reflect an energy imprint.  These patterns, or codes, can be analyzed, deciphered and translated from palmese to words that can be understood.  These words, describing the meaning in the hand- print is considered a ‘reading’.

Just about anyone over the age of four can learn how to read hands.  Depending on the desire and motivation advanced levels can also be achieved.  Today, let’s keep it very simple.

Below is a simple diagram of the hand with preliminary descriptions for the fingers and mounts. The descriptions come from the ancient art and science of hand reading.

A few charlitains and mis guided palmists have given the language of the palm a bad taste.  But that is actually the case with many trades.  For example, there are a small handfull (no pun intended) of doctors, lawyers, photographers and guru’s who may have demonstrated the negative side of their work. To encounter the best outcomes in your life-movie, it’s important to be curious, ask questions, follow your intuition, take personal responsibility for your investigations and perform according to a well writen script.  To have a more informed opinion of palmistry and hand analysis you are wise to visit with and read about hand analysis from highly qualified and professional hand analysts.

In this basic context of palmistry, we focus on a non-predictive approach where there is an upside and a downside to each identifiable attribute in the hands. As with your hair, there are good hair days and bad hair days!  Each characteristic identifiable in the hand, be it a heart line interpretation, a strong finger definition, a star, a grill or a hand shape, all have “plus” and “minus” sides. Assimilating both sides is crucial for personal understanding and development.

You may want to learn to read hands for fun out of curiosity or you may be in the process of learning how to read hands professionally.  No matter where you are in the spectrum of reading palms there are many positive outcomes.  Clients have reported the following benefits:

– Self knowledge and awareness

– Validation of deep knowings ‘within’

– Information to make better life-choices

– Self acceptance

– Clear articulation of strengths and weaknesses and what to do with both

– Ability to see opposing characteristics within the personality and declare steps for personal wholeness

– Understanding that every person is living their own life, in their own way

– Freedom to be me

– Clarity in why one is here

– Instead of wondering around with an invisible blindfold, one can use the life map etched in their very palms for life guidance.

Keep your eye out for my next article illustrating the major and vertical lines in the hands.  The major lines are the heart, head and life lines.  The vertical lines reach up the hands toward each of the fingers.
