Head Line – Only Solutions

If the Head Line starts with an arc coming down from the index finger, its owner is motivated to formulate action plans based on high ideals, visions, and dreams. The line acts like an antenna, downloading inspiration and plans to the leader within. The owner of such a Head Line is capable of brilliant influence through a continual flow of ideas for the betterment of the territory in which she resides (or reigns). She is inclined to fuel other people’s ideas and plans, in the form of solutions. Vigorously, her inner voice repeats, “There are no problems; only solutions.”

Solutions Only
Highly Motivated Mind

To attain the maximum levels of fulfillment and the sense of contribution, the owner of this line must be positioned in life to solve problems. For example a 10 year-old child must be enrolled in higher level learning programs to keep her motivated mind fully stimulated and involved in calculations and computations toward results. An adult with this design must be employed and engaged in challenging work where she is paid for the keys she holds to unlock doors for colossal results.

If this talent is not energetically applied the owner will feel empty and unfulfilled.

Motivated Mind Positive: I inspire and offer astounding solutions with a high level of confidence.

Motivated Mind Negative: I lack emotional sensitivity when I’m in my solutions-only brain.

Mantra: I offer my brilliant solutions with discernment and implement them with consideration.

Self-Reliant Head Line

Do you have the Self-Reliant Head Line? If the start of the Head Line is separated from the beginning of the Life Line, the owner’s thought system will be independent of his or her family of origin, acting autonomously.

If you have this marking of self-reliance, you prefer to figure things out on your own. For example, if you must decide whether to get married or divorced, go to college or quit college, start a job or change vocations, you rely on the resources of your own choosing, which may not include family input.

The handprint above belongs to one of the children in Project Snowflake. I initiated a formal project in early 2010 to observe the changes in the handprints of twelve children starting at ages between five days to eight years old. At the time of this printing she was fifteen years of age. As a youngster, her mental system did not match those of her parents as closely as one might think, even though they lived in a loving and supportive country home environment. She showed signs of operating on her own terms as early as age three. I first printed her hands when she was eight years old; she is now twenty-one. All of her handprints, spanning thirteen years, clearly show her tendency toward independence, freedom, and autonomy. She did her own thing on the soccer field in the sixth grade, not paying much attention to the position to which she had been assigned. At age fourteen, she snuck out of her bedroom in the middle of the night to meet her friends in the schoolyard. At eighteen, she has moved out of her home to work and attend college.

Keep in mind, no one marking tells a complete picture about someone’s character. Blending other eye-catching designs in the hands points to the theme of the owner’s life-story. As an example, combine this self-reliant Head Line with a Hermit Heart Line and the owner’s requirements for freedom and autonomy increase twofold. The Hermit Heart Line indicates necessity for sanctuary time, loyalty and productivity. The handprint above has a Hermit Heart Line, too.

Self-Reliant Positive: I have a large capacity to get the job done, especially when unsupervised.

Self-Reliant Negative: I don’t see the need for help very often, and this can make it challenging to team up with others toward a common goal.

Mantra: I relish in my independent mind, but I am open to receiving support from the team once in a while.

The Super Synthesizer Head Line

When the Head Line is clear, extends with consistent thickness straight across the hand, as if it were drawn in with a pen, and terminates about one-quarter to one-half inch before the edge of the palm, you’ll find a Super Synthesizer. This person won’t feel fulfilled unless she has an avenue in which to use her multifaceted system of comprehension and analysis. The quote by Greek philosopher Epicurus applies here, “The greater the difficulty, the more glory in surmounting it.”

Think of this very long Head Line acting like an eight-armed octopus that must be in full synthesis mode in order to feel a deep sense of satisfaction. Each of the eight arms is equipped with numerous sense-gathering suction cups, too.

The Octopus Brain must have problems to solve
The Synthesizer Head Line (AKA Octopus Brain)

Richard Unger calls such a long, clear Head Line HAL 9000, after the supercomputer in the science fiction story 2001: A Space Odyssey. I relay Unger’s description to my clients and watch their eyes open wide. In unison their body language matches their voice, saying, “Oh yes, that’s me.”

The following is the description I give to my long Head Lined clients and students. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, HAL is the central processing unit that controls everything on an entire Pan Am spaceship on a secret mission from Earth to Jupiter. HAL was the brain and nervous system of the ship and reported all problems to mission control.

HAL was constantly occupied, and said, ”I find things difficult to put out of my mind.” This is the gift and the curse of the octopus brain. On a good day, he put things together in an orderly fashion. On a bad day, he gets into a tangle.

In the end, having a bad day, HAL went haywire. He no longer had big enough problems to solve, so he over-analyzed little problems. The same can be said for someone with a HAL 9000 Head Line when not engaged in big challenging problems—the more complicated, the better. Assembling scraps of fabric for an elaborate quilt or reorganizing an entire corporation may suit Mr. or Ms. HAL, depending on other features in the hands. The Super Synthesizer Head Line has definite mental requirements—large, important projects with massive amounts of data.

Children with long Head Lines need enough intellectual challenge from school and home projects to keep them busy, otherwise they may very well create problems with siblings, friends, or schoolmates.

Once a father brought his eight-year-old daughter to me for a reading. She had a very long and clear Head Line. After I described her talent as a “super-duper computer,” she told me that she was very good at math and loved it. Unfortunately, she was teased by some of her classmates for having an advanced aptitude in mathematics. I encouraged her to maintain true friendships with those who would value her mental gifts.

If you are the owner of a Super Synthesizing Head Line, a sure sign that you’re not using your full potential is relationship problems. By initiating problems in relationships with others, you give yourself juicy problems to wrestle with. This makes HAL very happy, in a computer kind of way.

Super Synthesizer Positive: I use my exceptional mental aptitude to fully engage in colossal complexity, synthesizing large amounts of information.

Super Synthesizer Negative: Without enough data to manipulate, I instigate big problems to solve, usually in relationships.

Mantra: I exercise my ability to engage in the complex synthesis of thoughts without creating tangled webs within my closest relationships.

The Advocate Head Line

The Advocate Head Line originates inside and below the initiation of the Life Line, just above the inset of the thumb (see figure below). This is considered the Mars Mount. If you have this configuration you’re watchful and mentally alert. You can be headstrong about seeing both sides of the same coin. You’re a determined debater, but you can seem argumentative to someone not interested in debate.

The owner of the Advocate Head Line typically guards his or her thoughts, keeping them ready, in a sense, to defend his or her cause. He or she can be seen as prudish when his or her thoughts and resulting words contradict others. It might seem that this person is narrow-minded, but in actuality he or she thrives when seeing differently. Such a person makes an excellent social or political activist, waging war for the underdog.

One child I read for who had this marking kept answering my questions with other questions. It was hard to get anywhere with his quarrelsome character. You see, the Head Line, which represents the mental system, is dipping into the Mars Mount. Mars is a protector, capable of combat for his or her cause. The mental processor (Head Line) is fed by the courage and bravery of Mars, the warrior.

Extra warrior energy is available for use in the life of the owner when the Mars Mount is extra eye-catching to the naked eye or on a handprint.  Additionally, if the shape of the hand (palm and fingers) is rectangular and looks like it could fit into a ‘shoebox’ (see illustration below) the owner must regularly communicate about his or her cause to feel a sense of fulfillment.

Air Hand Shape

The late legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden did not want “yes-men” around him. He encouraged his assistant coaches to argue their points of view with him. He, in turn, responded strongly with his own opinions. Gary Cunningham, one of his head coaches said, “This was Coach Wooden’s way of testing how much the assistant coaches believed in what they were telling him and how much they knew about the points they were advocating.” But Coach Wooden also knew that it is difficult to effect positive change when you antagonize others. “The purpose of criticism is to correct, improve, and change; rarely to humiliate or embarrass,” he said. I didn’t see Coach Wooden’s hands, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he had the Advocate Head Line configuration. He was also a high-profile crusader helping people to be their personal best.

Advocate Key Words: Watchfulness, courageous, debating, stands-up-for, prudence, argumentativeness

The Advocate Positive: I am steadfast in considering contrary viewpoints and contribute many perspectives to uphold the conversation.

The Advocate Negative: If no one else can ever win, and I’m seen as an antagonist, I can become a loner by exclusion.

Mantra: For the cause, I use my skills of assertive thinking in tactful, savvy ways.

Bottom Line Thinking

Do you get impatient with people dragging out a story where the point could be summed up in about 3 seconds or less?

When a Head Line travels across the palm on a steady course, then flips upward at the end, its owner may have an uncontrollable urge to get to the bottom line and speak his or her truth. It’s as if the pinkie finger is invisibly pulling the end of the Head Line upward.

Bottom Line Mind

This long Head Line indicates a super processor with the ability to dart to the bottom line at lightning speed. This person is aware of what is really going on behind the scenes.  She can condense a two-hour movie into two sentences. The author of the CliffsNotes who summarized the literary work of War and Peace probably had the Bottom Line Mind Head Line configuration.

One owner of this line configuration told me, “It can be very painful to listen to someone drag out a story or an explanation when I already know where it’s going. I’ve learned how crucial it is to be patient and to bite my tongue so that others can finish speaking.”

It’s important for the person with this marking to find an approving audience for his agile, extra-aware, no-nonsense mind, otherwise he may be considered ruthless. When someone is wired for getting to the bottom line and telling it like it is spontaneously, he can appear quite insensitive. Friends and family may not have praised his urge to “get to the point” or his skill in doing so. The best remedy is for such a person is to have an outlet in which he can be fully engaged in truth-telling, while being in an arena where he is accepted and acknowledged for that skill.

Key Words: Alertness, shrewdness, astuteness, callousness

Bottom Line Mind Positive: Count on me for the truth without fluff.

Bottom Line Mind Negative: Without being tactful, my sharp, bottom line mind can alienate friends and family or, worse, I’ll stuff it all in self-condemnation.

Mantra: With grace and diplomacy I use my laser-sharp mind effectively in a setting where I am received.

Guide for Lost Souls

Following is an excerpt from my upcoming book, Your Life Is In Your Hands.

Guide for Lost Souls

The owner of a long head Line that curves deep into the palm considers ideas, thoughts, and activities that are influenced by deep meaning in life. People with this type of Head Line have felt the trap that Persephone felt after Hades kidnapped her to make her his wife. Held against her will, Persephone was trapped in the dark, dismal, gloomy underworld. If you have this deeply curving head Line, you most likely understand the feeling of depression. It doesn’t mean you are depressed but you know what it means to be depressed. Like Persephone, you have experienced despair associated with “your life not being your own.” You are sensitive and responsive to your environment, including the feelings of all beings. As Persephone matured she opened her heart to Hades and to the other lost souls ensnared in the underworld. Likewise, as you mature you develop a deep compassion for others that can develop into life work as a guide for people who have been led astray or trapped. A deeply curving head Line represents a potential path to mature into the Queen of the Underworld, handling hidden and all-consuming emotion, where reason has no place. Persephone also knew that she would return to the bright world above in spring each year. You have a genius for understanding others who enter into their own world of deep and unpredictable waters.

AAHA Guide for Lost Souls

Long, curving Head Line, toward the wrist

After describing the implication of this type of head Line to one client, she confirmed the analysis saying, “Oh, yes, that’s me.” Unexpectedly, I dive into a very dark place. I’m used to it now, so I have a mini fridge in my room with ice cream in it. I comfort myself on my favorite fluffy bedspread with DVDs next to my TV. I do know I’ll eventually resurface to everyday life.” Persephone did resurface out of the darkness, after choosing to do so, and realized her power in the decision and in her journey.

Key Words: Despair, grief, powerlessness, empathy, resurrection

Guide for Lost Souls Positive: I am able to be fully and completely present with deep sadness, maintain compassion, and steer others to their inner light.

Guide for Lost Souls Negative: Immobile, I remain a victim of kidnapping by hopelessness, believing I have no way out.

Mantra: I willingly open myself to deep emotion and am appropriately available to myself and other lost souls ready to “come back to life,” again, feeling joy.

You and Your Personal Super Computer

You and Your Personal Super Computer

Published in Valley Voice, January 2, 2014

By Kay Packard

The Head Line in your hands illustrates the unique operations of your mental system. Just as your computer has a CPU (central processing unit), you do, too. You employ your mental system when you plan dinner, a vacation and your New Year resolutions. In hand analysis, the length, shape and quality of this line are associated with how you comprehend information and make decisions. The Head Line is associated with the element of air. Consider what happens in the air around you; information flows. This line is one of the three major lines in the palm. The other two major lines are the Life (see Nov. 21 issue) and Heart Lines.

The Head Line starts on the inside of the palm, above the inset of the thumb, and extends across the middle of the hand (see figure 1). Head Lines are different on every hand. They range in length from short to very long. The shapes are straight and flat, rounded downward, and deeply curving toward the wrist (see fig. 2).

As invisible radio signals travel through the airwaves, so too do your ideas, thoughts, concepts, theories and perceptions surge though your internal airways. These channels represent your mental wiring system. Nature has created an etching in your hand to depict how your unique computer system is programmed. How you plan, reason, analyze, and integrate ideas can be read from your Head Lines. The Head Line on your left hand shows how you think at home and the Head Line on your right hand shows how you reason at work, in the outer world.

Owners of short Head Lines tend to make decisions quickly. When I asked a hand analysis student with a short Head Line how she decided to buy her very lucrative stocks she replied, “I did a quick analysis and bought!” She got a tip from a friend and simply liked the products she was investing in. People with short Head Lines draw conclusions more quickly than people with longer Head Lines and if the line is also clear, they’re not likely to change their mind.

The longer the line, the more time is spent ‘on-line’ considering and compartmentalizing information. When one of my students with a long, straight Head Line started a business he created a lengthy business plan, with extensive cost analysis, and purchased a high tech email system with elaborate features for maintaining contacts and selling products. He expressed many ideas to get his business off the ground and to expand. He’s also writing a book and leading workshops.

When the Head Line is long, clear of obstruction, extends straight across the hand and terminates about ½ inch before the edge of the palm (fig. 1) you’ll find the octopus brain. This person won’t feel fulfilled unless he or she has an avenue to use his or her multifaceted brain. All legs of the octopus must be in synthesis mode for the owner to feel a deep sense of satisfaction.

Fig 1 Long Head Line

Fig. 1 Long, straight and flat Head Line: Synthesizer

Children with long Head Lines need enough intellectual challenge to keep them busy with school and home projects otherwise they may very well create problems with siblings, friends or school mates.

One 8-year-old in my Project Snowflake showed me his hands with a broken Head Line.  For a fraction of an inch the line was broken but soon resumed and continued toward the edge of the hand. His sister told me that he would stop talking midstream of telling a story. I asked her not to complete his sentences for him, knowing that he’d get back ‘online’ and complete his thought. He’s now 11-years-old and his Head Line is reattached

Adults with this very long headline are capable of multi-tasking and require colossal complexity through projects at work and home. If you have this Head Line, a sure sign to know you’re not fully using your potential, is relationship problems. If you initiate a problem in a relationship with your spouse or sister, then you have a juicy problem to wrestle with.

Check the quality of the line. Is your Head Line etched smoothly without obstruction? If yes, the more clear your thinking. Does it break then restart at a new point? If there is a break or interruption in the line, then you will most likely experience your mental computer flipping off line and rebooting every now and then.

Fig 2 Long curving head line

Fig. 2 Long, curving Head Line down toward the wrist: Sensitive

The deep, curving Head Line (fig. 2) signifies a person who is deeply reflective, creative and perceptive in their thinking. Deep meaning in life influences their ideas and considerations. They are sensitive and responsive to their environment including people’s feelings. The deeply curving Head Line implies a gift of hidden and consuming emotion, where there is no reason, and the genius to understand others who enter into their world of deep waters. If they aren’t already, I suggest to my clients with long, curing Head Lines to involve themselves in hospice or other deeply caring health care.

Keep in mind; no Head Line is better than another. The way a person processes information is simply the way a person processes information. Consider that everyone comprehends information differently; people make decisions in different ways. A mentor once said, “Seek to understand, then to be understood.” Taking time to better understanding your own methods for decision-making and considering another’s different way of decision-making can generate patience and compassion when relating to others.

Talus and His Monkey Line

Talus and Mom came by share his two-year-and-seven-month hands with me.  He intently performed my requested hand printing, almost without instruction.  He printed his baby doll too!

Talus calls this line racing across his hand (above), “A Monkey Line.”  The monkey does fly from tree to tree with intent and grace.  I also like to think of it like a tight-rope where the walker is very aware of his (or her) every step.  Years of practice assure the walker remains wrapped to the line.

Inspiring and Intense Artistic Mastery

I’d like this 8-Year Old to be on my radar for years to come because of a few significant markings on her left hand (below).  One particular line called the Line of Apollo is stretching from the bottom of her palm up toward her ring finger (in pink).  While it is running a jagged course it still very much indicates the design of a professional artist.  Think of someone in the spotlight, maybe on the silver screen, who is a writer, performer with voice and instrument and possibly even a director, all wrapped in one.

She also has a Simian Line running horizontal along her hand from one side to the other (dark teal).  The key word for this line is intensity.  The emotional and mental systems are merged together.  They form a union and lend to the owner doing what they do with all of their being.

Because of the inside organization of emotions with thoughts there can be a sense of misunderstandings with others.  With extra care in the communications department  – which means purposeful practice in clarifying messages – she can develop into a master of communications.  Combine the preceding with the last minute veering of the Apollo Line toward the pinkie finger – the finger of communications – and we may see a theme of interpreting and translating in original and innovative form.

As a reminder, I am not making predictions about her future.  The lines can change and are most likely to change with her personal development.  The markings in the hand tend to indicate the preferences and inclinations of the owner.

One other line to note is the orange vertical line reaching up toward the index finger.  This is the line of inspiration and ambition.  This tells me she has an urge to surge with vision.  Her high ideals stimulate her vision and thus lead to her inspiring nature.

When combining just these three lines she has the talent of an inspiring and intense artist on her way to mastery.  Skills are required to develop mastery and in her case the following will help: practice and persistence in communicating her creative wants, visions, ideas and innovations; then doing them!

On a side note, her life purpose is the Successful Pioneer.  As she handles the arrows, stands true to her values and trusts her inner voice, I’d imagine we’ll see big things from this little one.   Stay tuned!

Self-Surveillance for Success at Life-You

By Kay Packard

Have you heard of Pareto’s Law? You may have heard of the 80/20 Principle. The Law, as an example, demonstrates that 20% of workers accomplish 80% of productivity in any business setting. Vilfredo Pareto was an economist and philosopher (and more) who determined that 80% of the wealth was generated by 20% of the population. He revealed that 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the inhabitants.

I leaned about the Pareto Rule over 20 years ago during my corporate life as a statistician. My analytical mind was put to use identifying and tracking metrics in the Hughes satellite factory in El Segundo, California. The goal – improvement – only happens through measuring and responding to those measurements. Root Cause Analysis and observation leads to success – guaranteed.

In the book “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Timothy Ferris, he suggests identifying the 20% of your sources that produce 80% of your desired results and happiness. Evaluating this theory at a personal level is quite insightful.

What are your ‘desired results” and what does “happiness” mean to you? You may want to get a pen and paper and jot down what comes to mind. Taking 5 minutes to read this and respond to your Inner Voice may drastically and irrevocably advance you toward your ideal life.

“Simplicity requires ruthlessness” Ferris says. To figure out what is most ‘important’ to do he suggests that you pretend you had a heart attack and can only work two hours a day. What would you complete if you could ‘do’ for only two hours a day? To obtain that which brings you the most happiness and joy, what would you do? How would you be? Who would you be in those two hours? Getting to this realization takes courage, awareness and bottom line thinking.

During the development of my latest hand analysis course, I’ve been contemplating the head line (in the hand) called “The Ruthless Mind”, named by Richard Unger. I call it the ‘Bottom Line Mind.” See Figure 1 with the head line traversing the palm with a flip up at the end. Look to see if you have one on your hand.

This head line indicates a super processor with the ability to get to the bottom line at lightning speed. This person is aware of what is really going on behind the scenes.  She can condense the two-hour movie script into two sentences.  She created the CliffNotes for “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy….and then simplified it even more.

If you have a head line, with a flip up at the end, toward the fingers, you’re probably not even reading this article any longer because you know where I’m ‘headed’.   However, the other head line types might be curious.

Even if you don’t have this ‘Bottom Line Mind’ head line, you can still take a shortcut.  Engage your internal computer to carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations that serve you

Sizzle up your surveillance system.  It’s obviously working for you in its own perfect way. And you can change the integrated circuitry to execute instructions for your happiness!

It’s OK to be ruthless in your Self inquiry.  Get brutally and radically honest about your-good-stuff.  Take a moment and quickly identify the 20% of your actions that bring you 80% of your delight.  Think about this; 80% of the joy, bliss, satisfaction, peace, success – or whatever your-good-stuff definition is, comes from ONLY 20% of your CONSCIOUS actions.  Don’t believe me. Experiment yourself.

Your computer program may rely on other people’s expectations, potential negative responses or on-going criticisms.  For now, put them all on pause, or hit the delete key.

You are programmable.  You have a code.  You’re constantly calculating. This is Life-You.  Say “Yes” to “You”.  If needed, insert a new micro chip and get to the bottom line of your source of joy. Be still and go within.

If you feel the urge, report back to me. Your input will be gladly assimilated into my microprocessor.
